Theresa earned her Certification by graduating from two accredited Yoga Therapy Schools and meeting additional criteria for education and experience set by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Only those who meet those standards may call themselves a Certified Yoga Therapist, or C-IAYT.
After spending 26 years as a newspaper reporter, Theresa left journalism in 2007 to pursue a career in Yoga Therapy. The following year, she completed her studies with Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and opened Yoga On The Ridge, a Roxborough studio offering therapeutic and standard Yoga classes. In 2013, she graduated from Inner Peace Yoga Therapy, where she continues to work as a Mentor to Yoga Therapists-in-training. She also is certified in Pain Care Yoga and Curvy Yoga, and trained in Adaptive Yoga for Disabilities. She trains other Yoga Teachers and Therapists in Teaching Yoga for Parkinson’s Disease, Teaching Yoga for Special Populations, and Teaching Yoga for Neurological Disorders.
In 2017, she opened Theresa Conroy Yoga Therapy, a specialized practice offering Yoga Therapy in private sessions and small group classes.
Philadelphia Magazine named her a finalist in its 2014 Health Hero Contest. And the magazine nominated her her studio in its Best of Philly awards in 2016. Various groups selected her as one of Philadelphia’s Top 10 Yoga Instructors. Since 2010, The Parkinson’s Council has made her a recipient of The Parkinson Council Grant, to reduce the cost of movement classes for those with Parkinson’s Disease. In 2015 she opened a Yoga Therapy Clinic that operated from her studio. She also speaks French and is a Certified Beer Judge.
